Dr. Samuel Shor is a nationally recognized specialist in Lyme disease and complex chronic conditions. With 40 years of medical excellence, he brings extensive expertise to Internal Medicine of Northern Virginia, focusing on patients with chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and Lyme disease.
As a past president of the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS) and an Associate Clinical Professor at George Washington University Health Care Sciences, Dr. Shor has significantly contributed to the understanding and treatment of Lyme disease. His dedication extends to advocating for improved diagnostic and treatment standards, including service on Virginia Governor McDonnell’s task force on Lyme disease and chairing the Loudoun County Lyme Commission.

Veronica Porterfield is a physician assistant and licensed nutritionist at Internal Medicine of Northern Virginia, specializing in functional medicine. Driven by her personal experience of seeing functional nutrition transform her child’s health, she transitioned from international affairs to healthcare, acquiring degrees in nutrition and physician assistant studies.
Certified in functional medicine through the IFM, Veronica focuses on autoimmune conditions, hormone optimization, Lyme disease, and other complex chronic illnesses. She employs a holistic approach, combining lifestyle, nutrition, and tailored medical interventions. Having navigated her own health challenges, she brings deep compassion and understanding to her patient-centered care, emphasizing hope and healing.
