Management of TICK BITES

Prophylaxis with antibiotics

We adhere to the ILADS guideline with respect to treating tick bite exposure generally at least 4 weeks with antibiotics. With the caveat that close clinical follow up must be emphasized. This treatment may not always be effective in preventing Lyme disease or other tick borne diseases, for which further management may be warranted.

This is in contradistinction to a flawed guideline of TWO Doxycycline prophylaxis encouraged by the IDSA. This latter recommendation has been described as being inadequate.
